2024 is well underway and for Kunashe this is a year of focus and thorough execution of all our existing programmes! My desire is for us to transform lives in a meaningful and sustainable manner that leaves women and young people better off. A big lesson learnt from over 5 years of our work and 10000 people trained is this- people matter. Every aspect of the human being matters - our emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual well-being matters. So does our financial wellbeing and our self-belief or personal drive. In realising this it has become important to me that our work at Kunashe deals with the holistic being.
It is also evident and alarming that women and young people continue to be marginalised and systematically excluded from social and economic activities. We are seeing less and less women occupying the places and spaces they desire to with limited compensation, and low perceived value within those spaces. The same is true of young people who continue to miss out on opportunities to participate meaningfully in social and economic activity. It is our mission to change this in Zimbabwe and across Southern Africa.
We believe this can be done through the advocacy of inclusive policies and practices as well as the equipping of these two groups with the correct technical and soft skills required to compete competitively. In the process we do not seek to create a homogeneous group of women and young people who have the exact same values and share the same ideas. Rather we seek to create an environment that celebrates our differences, respects our choices and is more interested in holistic development of the individual.
As we launch into our 2024 programming my hope is that we would be part of re-igniting the hopes and dreams of young people, supporting women through the various seasons of life as well as safeguarding our collective wellness and wellbeing.
