Breast feeding can be a lovely experience with the exception of it getting slightly messy for new mums. This article serves to assist mothers with breastfeeding tips to boost their confidence and promote good breastfeeding hygiene, regardless of all the spills, spit ups and leaks.

Your body is beautifully designed to keep itself clean. However, a few added hygiene practices go a long way towards keeping mums and babies safe. Here are a few simple hygiene tips:
1. Do not use scented soaps or lotions on your nipples - opt for natural body butters or lanolin to keep both mum and baby comfortable. 2. Change your nursing pads often to avoid milk build-up or odours. 3. Avoid tight, restrictive bras and clothing, go for comfortable clothing. 4. Rinse/ Wipe your breasts after exercising to avoid sweat build up. 5. Wash and sterilise your breast pump after use to ward off germs and bacteria. 6. Remember to enjoy this time with your baby and be kind to yourself. Get help from lactation specialists or your doctor if you are struggling. Breastfeeding is not always easy or painless to begin with but remember that you are doing a great job!
